About the artist

Bilbao, Spain, 1976

Colour plays a central role in Natalia Zabala’s artistic expression, serving as an essential means of exploration and discovery throughout her creative process.

Born in Bilbao, the artist grows up between Brussels and Barcelona, surrounded from an early age by different cultures and artistic sensibilities.

Following a professional career in the luxury industry, she moves to Berlin in 2016, where she studies painting and explores the use of colour in greater depth. During this period, she finds inspiration in German Expressionism and develops a deeper sensitivity to the expressive possibilities of colour, exploring mixtures, nuances and chromatic relationships within the composition.

Upon returning to Barcelona in 2018, she continues her artistic education at Escola Massana, refining her skills in figurative painting and portraiture.

In 2020, she moves to San Francisco, California, and becomes part of the ICB Art community in Sausalito. There, she discovers the value of exchange and collaboration among artists, while exploring mixed media and new painting techniques. Her exposure to American abstraction and a culture of artistic experimentation broadens her understanding of painting and creative freedom. During this period, she gains greater confidence in her intuition, allowing each composition to evolve and find its own balance.

Through this artistic and personal journey, she has developed a visual language of her own, in which colour, geometry, composition and intuition come together in an expression that is both free and deeply personal.
